Why you should talk to your Dentist

Food we eat, drinks we consume, and even our natural genetics can all play a role in the color of our teeth. Everyone wants to have a brilliant smile and an essential part of that is having a set of pearly whites.

It's important to talk with your dentist before embarking on any kind of teeth whitening regimen, so your dentist can examine your teeth to make sure they are prepared for the process. It is possible to do damage to both the enamel and the roots of your teeth when using a strong whitening agent, so it's always best to undergo teeth whitening under the direct supervision of a qualified dental professional.

Since everyone is unique, we would customize your experience so you can achieve the results you want, the way you want. We offer either a 45 minute in-office treatment and/or a take-home option.

How Does Teeth Whitening Work?

Teeth whitening agents will contain either hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide, both of which contain highly volatile oxygen molecules. When these oxygen molecules contact tooth surfaces, they work to break up the bonds which hold stains together on your teeth. With nothing to hold the stains in place, they dissolve and fade away from your teeth, leaving them much brighter and whiter.

What Causes Tooth Staining?

First of all, there are quite a few foods and beverages which act to stain your teeth, among them coffee, tea, wine, and sodas. Smoking cigars or cigarettes can also stain your teeth, especially if you've been doing it for a long period of time. Any kind of trauma or disease which has an impact on the development of enamel in your teeth would be a potential cause of staining. There are also a number of medications which can cause your teeth to become discolored, again over a long period of time especially. Lastly, poor dental hygiene can lead to severely discolored teeth, because the teeth never get the benefit of whitening and cleaning to help keep them bright and white.

Bleaching vs. Whitening: What's the Difference?

There are several processes that can be used to accomplish teeth whitening, which is a broad category of dental care. Bleaching, on the other hand, is a much narrower process consisting of a single form of treatment, i.e. chemical whitening of teeth using either hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide. In both cases, you should enlist the supervision of your dentist, because he/she will know which form of whitening is best for your teeth. If your teeth are not overly sensitive, then bleaching may work best for you. If you do have sensitive teeth, it might be that some other form of whitening would be most appropriate in your case.

1

A powerful blue light activated gel is applied to your teeth. The main component of the gel is hydrogen peroxide. This ingredient will penetrate the surface of the tooth and whiten them deeply while removing stains and discoloration.

2

To speed up the whitening process of the gel, we shine our blue LED lamp onto your teeth.

3

Repeat this 3 times

4

Finally, once you’ve reached your desired result, we will apply a post-treatment gel to help protect your enamel and reduce sensitivity.

5

Proper care of your teeth and occasional use of at home whitening will help your new bright smile last a lifetime!
